Co-starring in Daybreakers are Claudia Karvan ( Audrey Bennet ), Isabel Lucas ( Alison Bromley ), and Vince Colosimo ( Christopher ).

The journey to make Daybreakers started in Nov 2004 when Lionsgate received the script to the flick. Spierig brothers collaborated before in the 2003 film Undead. It took them 2 years to get the financing to make the film. The producers were the Film Finance firm Australia. The location was set to be in Queensland.

Casting started in May 2007 with Hawke getting the lead role. Later, Neill joined the cast. Filming began two months later on July 16, 2007. WETA, the same company that created the creature effects for The Lord of the Rings trilogy are also behind Daybreakers. The flick's budget was $21 million but it also received assistance from the state government. They finished filming in September 2007 - right in good time. There were some re-shoots but these were done quick and further delays were avoided.

Hawke describes the film as a story of man's pacing with natural resources. People have been abusing the planet's resources so now there are wishes for substitutes.
